Lust is part of our lives: 'Dirty Picture' director

Milan Luthria is charting unknown territory by exploring the wild side of a woman with his new movie 'The Dirty Picture'. The director is hopeful that it will strike a chord with the audience despite an overdose of sexuality and oomph in Vidya Balan's role because he feels lust is no more restricted to the bedroom.

'I thought there was no point in doing something that has already been done. So I decided to take a woman and explore her in my own way,' Luthria told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.
'After all we are an evolving nation; with the internet being the most common tool of communication, pornography is reaching out to every household. These days people no more feel sorry about their desires. Lust is a part of our lives and nature, so why shy away from it?' added the director who helmed 'Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai' and 'Taxi Number 9211'.
In the film, Vidya's character unabashedly expresses her desires.
'There is fun in knowing unknown things, exploring a woman's mind, body and spirit in such a way as has never been done before. So, when the idea came to me, I was like why not? This is interesting and challenging. When our country's top-notch directors like Mahesh Bhatt and Yash Chopra have made women-centric films like 'Arth' and 'Lamhe' respectively, why not me?' he asked.
But 'The Dirty Picture' is something that has not been attempted by A-list filmmakers.
'It is much easy to take a familiar route, but it's difficult to be different. And I was very clear from the very beginning that I didn't want to talk about their love or suffering. I wanted something spunky. I wanted to show a woman who has guts and glory.'
The film was launched as a tell-all tale of southern sex symbol Silk Smitha, but later the filmmakers said it was not so.
Asked why, Luthria said: 'We are living in a media age where information gets exaggerated. We have always said that it was based on a dance girl, but it was not Silk Smitha as in those days there were other women in the industry like Disco Shanti. The story is about a dance girl who left a mark while she was pitted against so many men.'
'It is the journey of a dancer and what goes on in her mind, what made her a phenomenon and how troubled relationships were part of her life, how she battled fame, fortune and alcohol. So it's not about Silk. You have to see it to believe that it's a work of fiction,' he added.
The film has an interesting star cast. If Vidya has shed inhibitions to ooze oomph, Naseeruddin Shah is cast as a lecherous actor, Emraan Hashmi an impatient lover and Tusshar Kapoor as wicked, but innocent.
'Naseer is my friend. I remember watching his movies like 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron' and 'Chamatkar'. I wanted to tap that side of his, but I wasn't sure how he would react. But I was sure that his fans would love to see him in this role,' said Luthria.
'When I narrated the script and his role, I was surprised. He loved it at first go. He told me, 'I want to do everything - dance, get wet in the rain, be a lech, go over the top',' he added.
The film will land in the theatres on Dec 2 and Luthria is waiting for the audience verdict with baited breath.
'We wanted to fire the audience with all powerful bullets in our armory. A lot of effort was put in music and I am glad the audience is noticing our product, which has no big names. This shows the perception of the audience is changing and it is nice to see them lapping up something experimental,' he said.
But all this was not easy.
'There were times when we were not sure whether we were heading in the right direction. But I am lucky that producer (Ekta Kapoor) believed in my vision and trusted me completely,' he added.

Shah Rukh Khan on sex, life and more!

He is the undisputed King of Bollywood and with his much-awaited film Ra.Onereleased worldwide, the savvy Khan opens up to Cosmo's COO Mala Sekhriabout smoking 100 cigarettes a day, his belief that women are God's best creation, and not getting any sleep...

Mala Sekhri: What do you think makes you sexy? Could it be your ordinariness?

SRK: Yes, I think so. There are two ways you can be a star. You could either be someone people want to be, like Mr. Bachchan or some great sportstar. Or you could be someone people can relate to. I think I belong to the latter category. Mothers and little girls think of me as the kind of son they'd like to have or the guy they'd like to marry. I've always been very simple and ordinary. When I act, I'm extraordinary because I have to work hard. Some people may feel otherwise, but I believe in the gentleness of acting. I am an overactor, I can overact in a second. I'm from theatre, I can overdo stuff and I can under play it, like Chak De and Swades, but I feel each and every character that I portray in a film.

MS: What's your biggest fear?
SRK: Everytime I do a film, whether it's a hit or a flop, I feel that I leave behind a certain part of me in it. So my biggest fear is that I will wake up one morning and will not have any more parts left to leave in a film. This is how I approach acting.

MS: They say when a couple has been married for years, they become like siblings...has that happened to you?
SRK: No, I don't think so. My wife is anything but my sister. I haven't had much time to spend with her over the years, because of my schedule, so the freshness of my marriage is still quite intact. We've never thought the sameabout films, about lifeand we've never tried to change that about each other. The only thing we are completely aligned in thought about are the kids. Both of us have become very focused about them and that has become the centre of our lives.

We are both really easy, and we've never encroached upon the other's space. I'm a moviestar, I've been working for 20 years. I work with the most beautiful women in the world. Whether I think of it like that or not, there are enough stories to go around...that I sleep around with foreigners, with men, with my coactresses. But it has never affected us because I guess she knows I don't have the time to do anything but work.

MS: At 45, do you think you're more conscious about your health now...
SRK: No. I don't sleep. I smoke about a 100 cigarettes a day. I forget to eat. I don't drink water. I have 30 cups of black coffee, and I have a six-pack. So, the less I take care of myself, the more I get taken care of. I think healthy is boring. I'm not saying do drugs...but if you're happy doing what you want then everything will fall into place.

MS: So we hear you're a dog lover...

SRK: I have four dogs. One's called Hulk, he's a black labrador. Then there's Dash, who's our favourite, he's a Japanese Chin. We have two Capones named Ky and JuicyJuicy's name was given by Karan (Johar); Ky is a Japanese Manga comic hero; and Dash is from The Incredibles movie. My son did the voice-over for that film.

C: So your final message to women from 18 to 80...
SRK: I think you are the most beautiful thing God has made. Irrespective of what anyone says about you, or tries to demean you, just rememberand I truly believe thisgod has made women in His image. I believe women are the most gentle, intelligent and sweet creatures ever created. Remember, there's no life without women.

Sanjay Dutt has been doing a lot of comedies lately but Ram Gopal Varma’s thriller ‘Department’ will see him essay a completely different role. Dutt was recently shooting a scene in which he has anemotional breakdown and he couldn’t stop weeping even after the shot was complete.
The crew members were quite shocked when their attempts to console Dutt failed. Tabloid reports further state that even RGV was surprised and did not know how to react to the situation. Speaking to the Mumbai Mirror, Ramu confirmed, "I didn't know how to handle it! The emotional angst Sanjay displayed for that scene left me shaken. He honestly startled me! We were doing a critical scene, where Sanjay had to be teary-eyed. In spite of knowing him for so many years, I never expected to see this side of him.I think it is his most dramatic and powerful performance to date."

How To Charm The Female Mind

Guys: Here, an expert shares exactly how to attract and impress the object of your affection. Use this info to your advantage.

Just like renowned thinker Sigmund Freud, many regular guys ponder the question, “What do women want?”—and find themselves dumbfounded. According to Kathy Freston, author of The One: Discovering the Secrets of Soul Mate Love, understanding the female mind isn’t that difficult. Need some direction? Here are her suggestions on how to understand — and woo — women.
Q:What is the number-one mistake that men make when
trying to impress women?
A:When men feel insecure, they sometimes compensate by acting arrogantly or being grandiose. As much as bragging about your car, house or big bank account might initially get a woman’s attention, it will soon thereafter be a major turn-off. Women like confidence and security, but they know that only when those qualities are real, a man doesn’t have to throw them around for show.
Q:What else would you warn men away from doing?
A:Another thing healthy women find unappealing is when a man is too needy, grabbing for too much of her attention and affection. That kind of behavior communicates that there is not much else going on for him in terms of friendships or intimate relations.
